I have a 2 year old

I have a 2 year old and he's so NOT terrible and I hope it stays that way!! Aidan is really a wonderful, funny, smart, beautiful boy - if I do say so myself!! He loves to dance and sing and repeat everything we say. I feel so lucky to have gotten to spend the past 6 months at home with him. Of course, I also can't believe it's already been 6 months. We're gearing up for Halloween here and going as some of the cast of "Yo Gabba Gabba." It's one of Aidan's favorite shows. I used to be Wonder Woman for Halloween, this year I'll be Foofa : ) I am a lot like Foofa who likes flowers and fluffy things. Big thank you to Augie who is helping me make my costume, as there is no adult store costume to purchase. We carved our Aidan's first Jack-o-lanterns this weekend. Aidan did not want to stick his hand in the slimy pumpkin to help dig out the seeds, and I don't blame him. I roasted those pumpkin seeds though and they were soooooo yummy.

I have just started making some calls to pitch the kids show pilot, "Boom Chicka Boom" so please send some good energy into the Universe for us. It would be great if starring on that show could be my job.

Summer update (clever huh?)

I thought blogging would be good for me because I would be "forced" to post everyday and write and be creative and record my life and my family's life and share with my friends, etc... but it's become more of this bizarre thing that's ended up on my to do list once a month... sigh. Motherhood and toddlerhood and life is moving so quickly that I feel like I can't even record or capture it or print the photos fast enough. I really try to savor each moment because it is going by so quickly like everyone says it does.

I can say we've had a really awesome summer. It's really been great not working. I have gotten pleasantly used to this. Aidan started talking up a storm on our California trip back in July. He can pretty much repeat almost anything - and if we ask him to say something he will certainly give it his best shot. He's really good at Spanish too! He can say "Hola, Muchacho and Adios Amigos!" so far... : ) Overall, (knock on wood) he is a really good boy. He loves picking and eating blackberries in the backyard with his Daddy. Sometimes he says "Bless you Mommy" out of nowhere when I haven't sneezed. He loves his blankie and the TV show "Yo Gabba Gabba." We've decided that will be the theme for his 2nd birthday party. He knows already, don't worry it's not a secret. He likes to sit on the stoop and eat grapes - both red and green.

We also had a great trip to the Bahamas with the ladies of my family in July. Aidan wowed them with his talking too. We dragged him into the ocean and the pool and I think a month later he's finally getting the hang of it! Poor city kid. We went to the public pool a few times and Aidan's really starting to enjoy it. Little fishy. We've had so many great adventures with our friends "JennandJason". Aidan says that like it's one word. We still have a beach trip coming up too. We've also had some really fun times with our neighbors Leah (3.5) and Aaron (1 week older than Aidan). Their Mom, Lori is from Jersey and went to Rutgers and really cracks me up. Oh! Aidan got a step stool and a potty seat. He looks like such a big boy on his step stool brushing his teeth... ahem... I mean, eating toothpaste.

Spring is a nice time to be laid off

So far I've really been enjoying my 3 weeks as an unemployed stay-at-home Mom receiving severance pay. I am busier than ever actually. I'm working on a personal TV children's project pilot with my best friend Laurie that we're shooting in 2 weeks. The timing just worked out with the whole losing the day job thing. I'm really excited about it and think it's going to be great. We have some really talented people working on it including my husband Augie. Aidan's still been going to "fun school" (daycare) 2 days a week and I've been running errands, going to doctor's appointments, etc. on those days. So far it's still been working out good. He likes going there too so I'd hate to take that away from him right now. Oh, I've also taught some Music For Aardvarks classes the past 2 weeks which was great - I have totally missed doing that. Like I said, I'm busier than ever!

We went to Vermont for 2 college comedy gigs I had last weekend, which was really fun. I was worried at first about SIX hours in a car with a toddler but Aidan did SO good. I brought plenty of toys and... yes, DVD's. I brought my laptop so I could play my child's favorite TV shows and DVD's in the car. I was SUCH a judger of parents that did that pre-Aidan - but oh my God, what a lifesaver. Holy crap. Vermont was beautiful and there weren't even any leaves on the trees yet. There is SO MUCH SPACE there. We sure do live on top of each other here in Brooklyn. Kinda seems a little silly when there's all that space up there. Couldn't they lend us some somehow? The first night I drove home from the school I was playing I had a mini panic attack while I was driving on the highway. It was just so so... freakin' D A R K. There was not a soul on the road but me and I felt like I was playing a video game or something just plummeting though space. Yep. I'm a total city slicker. I was never so happy to see the lights of my Comfort Inn. Ah... HOME.

Aidan just seemed to love all the new experiences: eating out at restaurants, climbing the stairs at the hotel, seeing real cows on the side of the road. My gigs were good - well, the 2nd one was great and the first one was "eh" but that's how it goes sometimes. It felt really good to play though. And I have a solid 45 minute college set. I play more parodies at colleges and less angry urban songs. My new favorite parody is "I Kissed A Squirrel" to Katy Perry's song.

So happy that Spring has finally sprung though. It felt like the cold was just lingering. It was so good to see Aidan in a short sleeve shirt, free of his puffy, bulky coat. It went from cold to sunscreen weather all of a sudden. He has been saying a few new words everyday now, it's just amazing. I feel lucky to be able to spend this time with him. He's saying his colors now and sometimes even says them to the correct color. He says Faffle for Waffle. He says WHY? really great which is so darn cute. I think I confused him by telling him there is also a letter "Y." The English language can be very confusing sometimes. Aidan also has tantrums like a good toddler should especially when we stop doing an activity he is enjoying i.e. blowing bubbles, hanging out in the refrigerator, climbing up the neighbors' stoop or pulling the produce down off the store shelves.

My boy is 18 months old

Thought I'd post some photos to celebrate Aidan's 18 month birthday today!! I was trying to explain to him this morning that he was a year and a half old and that in 6months he'd be 2... but when I ask him to hold up fingers of how old he is, he should still just hold up 1 until further notice.

I can't believe 6 months ago he was just starting to walk. Now he flies through our apartment at lightening speed and can climb up on the couch all by himself provided he gets a good start. He loves to dance and puts his index fingers up like he's doing the Charleston or the Watussi as soon as he hears any music. Even the theme music for Weather on the 1's on NY1. He seems to just about be finished with eating crayons (almost) and using them for their god given purpose of throwing them in the middle of the living room floor. He says Mama, Dada, Nana, Boo, Bubble, Quack, go, go go and NO - and probably a few more words that I can't quite distunguish. The "no" is really just too cute now how he says it. And what power for him to finally be able to tell us and we understand. Once in a while he'll bust out a word so perfectly and then never say it again. Little teaser!

Aidan got his first haircut last month (photos above). The place was literally off the hook. A combo toystore/kids haircut place. They put Elmo on for him, blew bubbles and tied a balloon to our stroller before we left. Quite a wonderful experience. They even gave me a certificate with his locks in a little ziploc baggy that inpsired me to make a scrapbook ASAP. Last week Aidan held my hand and we walked 3 blocks to the Frozen Yogurt store and back! That was the longest walk we've ever done and I couldn't believe he held my hand the entire time. Such a big boy - pretty soon he'll be taking the subway by himself to the city. Sigh.
